Dyslexia Tuition

Face to face and online tutoring services

At Hands on Dyslexia, we offer both face to face
and online tutoring nationally.

Our teaching team encourage a ‘hands on’ kinesthetic and multi sensory approach to learning.

These sessions are either specialist or specialist led lessons.  At Hands on Dyslexia we encourage a ‘hands on’ kinesthetic and multi-sensory approach to learning.

All our tutoring is based on solid research and is theory led.  We design a bespoke package for each student and have the specialist expertise and knowledge to develop their areas of need.  The lessons and strategies are designed and developed specifically for dyslexic children and adults.

Overlearning is a key element in the Hands on Dyslexia teaching programme. Therefore, each child is supplied with a set of reading, spelling and information cards for them to rehearse at home. This only takes about 10 minutes but it is imperative to practise at least 4 times a week to ensure good rates of progress. Targets are set for each student and these are shared verbally with both parents and students.

For children’s lessons, we encourage parents to arrive a few minutes before the end of each session as this enables short feedback to be given.

Frequently asked questions

  • The tutoring can take place in a variety of environments: the centre, tutors’ homes or online.

  • Yes I’m afraid so! Lots of research shows that dyslexic learners require overlearning to help them remember information such as high frequency spellings. Therefore you will have a kit of bespoke cards that we asked you to rehearse daily. These usually take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

  • Your tutor will continuously monitor your progress and will discuss this regularly with you or your parents.

  • The tutoring sessions usually take one hour although if you are having tutoring in a school location this can be split into two sessions.

  • At Hands on Dyslexia we aim to make the process of learning as fun as possible and have a ‘hands on approach’.

  • Usually tutoring is for term times only however, we sometimes run boot camps and catch up sessions during the holidays.

  • We do have a policy for lesson cancellations however, if you give your tutor at least one weeks notice they can usually be rearranged.

  • 'Thank you for everything you’ve done for Matt and Luke. They have both progressed immeasurably under your guidance. Your support has prepared them brilliantly for secondary school.'

  • I just wanted to say thank you for all the skills you have taught me. You have helped me in English and other subjects and now you have taught me all the basic skills to get me through my GCSEs. It is crazy to think that when I first came to you I couldn’t put two words together and our last session we were doing GCSE work and all I want to do is say, ‘Thank you so much.’
